The world is overflowing with postcard-sized cards, isn’t it?
Postcards you buy at museums, DMs sent from galleries — it’s the same in the art world, and if you’re not careful, a huge pile of cards builds up. You have to keep them tidy and organized.
What to Do Right Away
Here are the points to watch out for when storing postcards.
- Getting dirty from fingerprints and the oils on your hands
- Creasing
- Corners bending or folding
- Getting scratched
- Getting soiled
- Wrinkling and warping from moisture
The first thing to do to keep your favorite cards looking pristine is to “put them in a sleeve.” These are the so-called “OPP sleeves” — cheap, at a level of a few hundred yen for 100 sheets — and the type with an adhesive tape that seals shut is the one I recommend.
