Maki Fine Arts
I visited Fuminao Suneaga’s solo exhibition being held at Maki Fine Arts, a gallery in Kagurazaka

Fuminao Suneaga is an artist born in Yamaguchi in 1974, who graduated from the painting course at Tokyo Zokei University. He appears to be active overseas as well.
Search Results (search result)
This solo exhibition presented works created using, as their motif, the results of image searches (= search result) performed with painters’ names as keywords.

There is a fascination in the way an image search displays paintings uniformly conformed to the device’s aspect ratio. It is a delightful approach that translates a digital motif into an analog one.

In Summary
Many of the works were already sold, a sign of their popularity. I also heard that they are highly popular overseas, in places like New York. The search results are apparently based on actual image searches (the ranking of search results changes over time).
It’s a truly enjoyable motif. I look forward to more of this artist’s startling, eye-opening choices in the future.
