I paid a visit to Röntgenwerke in Asakusabashi.
Always such a beautiful building, I thought admiringly…
“Kisō no Musukotachi” 〜 Heutiger Manierismus: Radi-um Mix
“Manierismus” refers to an artistic style seen in the late Italian Renaissance of the mid- to late 16th century. Vasari added to the Italian word “maniera” (technique/style) the meaning of “a sophisticated artistic technique that surpasses even nature.” However, this later gave rise to the negative interpretation of “a mere imitator of Michelangelo.”
“Kisō no Musukotachi – Heutiger Manierismus,” the next series from Röntgenwerke—which advocates a vision for contemporary Japanese art with “Kōjutsu” as one of its pillars—seeks to take up the word Mannerism by returning to its original meaning of “inheritors of a sophisticated artistic technique.” We came to think that Giorgio Vasari’s “style,” premised on the existence of universal beauty, might be brought to land as a spin-off concept of “Kōjutsu,” which has been held since 2009 under Ikeuchi’s curation. — from the official website
The five artists each radiate their own individuality, yet I felt the overall tone was well harmonized. As I always feel, the lighting at this gallery is superb.
