Art Fair Tokyo 2018
She was an artist I had been curious about for a while, but without the chance to see her work, I met it for the first time at the art fair. …I think that is a common story, and Chisato Tanaka is one such artist. This was the first time I had the pleasure.
Chisato Tanaka
The distinctive characters and the strong black in the simple background form a deep darkness that seems to stretch on forever; conversely, it asserts its presence so strongly that once it catches your attention, before you know it you are drawn in more and more.
Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1980.
Graduated from the Design Department of Kyushu Sangyo University Kyushu High School in 1998.
Graduated from the Oil Painting Course, Department of Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tama Art University in 2005.
Currently lives in Fukuoka Prefecture.
She has also handled many book bindings and CD jackets, so there may well be occasions when you come across her work around town.
From small pieces to large works, a wide range of works were on display.
The contrast between black and color is exquisite. The standing pose of the model also feels somehow reminiscent of something.
Even after I left the venue, it stayed strangely on my mind, and I ended up buying an art book and postcards at another location. It feels as if I fell for a trick.
I want to keep my eye on her and watch her closely from now on.
