I went to see the photo exhibition by Jiro Konami that I’d been curious about for a long time.
It’s an opening-commemoration project marking the launch of the shop by “VAINL ARCHIVE,” the brand headed by Kohei Ohkita.

The shop is on the 2nd floor of the building. There are announcement flyers on the stairs, so they make a handy landmark.

Jiro Konami is a young photographer born in 1986. What stands out is his distinctive, characterful film photography, recognizable at a glance.

True to the title of the solo show, these are works in which his character comes through straight and unfiltered.

Photo Book “Straight no Chaser”

SALT AND PEPPER has published a photo book with the same title as the exhibition. It’s limited to 200 copies at 4,000 yen (excl. tax). Each carried a handwritten edition number with a signature.

The smooth feel of this photo book’s cover is a pleasure, and the quality is such that it would look great even framed as is. It might well be worth getting one to frame and one to browse.

I was given a copy, and now I’m mulling over whether to buy a second…

I would have liked to see more works, but my impression is that he’s less a photographer to watch going forward and more one who has already reached a maturing stage.

I hope he’ll create many more occasions to appear before us.
