Nozomi Hirata
I took part in Art Fair Tokyo 2018 starting from the private view.
The artist I was able to talk with the most on the opening day was Nozomi Hirata.
Partly because the name “Nozomi” led me to assume the artist was a woman, I made an embarrassing mistake right in front of him — I’m so sorry…
He turned out to be such a pleasant young man! He’d pulled roughly three all-nighters to finish the piece at the very last minute, sliding in by the skin of his teeth. It was at the booth of “Artglorieux,” a gallery in GINZA SIX.
At first I mistakenly thought the works had been painted by a woman.
Partly because of the name “Nozomi,” I ended up saying something rude right in front of him… I’m sorry.
Every one of the works gives a calm impression while also carrying a certain glamour — they are wonderful pieces.
Midway through our conversation, it came to light that he lives in a place the writer is deeply connected to. That led to all sorts of exchanges, and he answered even my questions thoroughly and with a gentle way of speaking.
