[Call for Artists] We’ll Produce a Solo-Exhibition / Interview Feature Article for Free

We produce a feature article covering your solo exhibition and publish it on the web media “art on.”

Our site turns solo and group exhibitions into articles from a visitor’s viewpoint, but we’d like to experimentally try articles built mainly around interviews with the artists themselves.

We’d like to cover those who meet the criteria below. After checking the conditions, please get in touch via the application form.
*What is “art on”…? It’s an individually run web media operated with the wish to energize Japan’s contemporary art and to bridge artists who lack a means of getting their voice out to the wider world.

[What We Offer]

・One article published on art-on.jp (solo-exhibition report + interview article)
・Free provision of the photo data we shoot (on request)

[Eligibility]

Art creators who will hold a solo exhibition (or equivalent) within the period and are 35 or under (students welcome).
*We’ll be there covering “Design Festa vol.47” as media, so exhibitors at that event are also eligible.

[Coverage Overview]
  • Period: April to the end of June 2018
  • Desired coverage time: 1 to 2 hours (total, including setup)
  • Location: the solo-exhibition venue
  • Subjects photographed: interview scenes, portraits of the artist, the works, views of the exhibition venue, and so on
  • Coverage team: 1 person for interview & photography (male). If hair and makeup are needed, 1 more person (female) is added, for a team of 2 in total
  • Slots: a small number (if there are many applications, we may be unable to accommodate everyone).
  • Notes: If you request hair and makeup, the coverage date will be confirmed at the earliest 5 days in advance. Also, depending on the staff’s schedule, we may ask to change the coverage time. In addition, we ask you to send a face photo in advance.
[Notes]
  • Editorial rights and copyright to the article page belong to us (advance review of the content is possible).
  • If our schedules don’t align, it may not be possible to go ahead.
  • Coverage is one time only; please understand that reshoots and the like are not available.
  • Depending on the content, we may be unable to accept.
[Q&A]

Q: Is it okay even if I’m not selling well?
A: If you have the drive and grit to hold a solo exhibition, no problem at all!

Q: I do sell well—can I get a coverage fee?
A: Sorry, since we bear costs of our own such as transportation, time, and hair-and-makeup labor, we can’t pay one (._.).

Q: What kind of article will it be?
A: It will be made up of the solo exhibition’s atmosphere and an interview with the artist. Impressions of the works will be the writer’s subjective take, but in keeping with the site’s concept it won’t include negative content.

Q: I’d like to review the article content and photos in advance…
A: If you request it, we’ll let you review in advance. We’ll handle corrections such as fact-checking, but we don’t accept edits to the article content itself. If you’re not satisfied with the content, we’ll respond by, for instance, deleting the relevant part.

Q: Will you include a link to my site in the published article?
A: A link to the artist’s site is of course possible. We’ll accommodate posting information such as your upcoming plans as far as we can!

Q: This all sounds too good—kind of fishy…
A: Publishing the article boosts our site’s page views too, so there’s an upside for us as well. And using this project as a benchmark, we hope to approach big-name artists. We’ve thought all that through properly 😎.

Q: I have lots of other things I want to ask…
A: Please ask us anything through the inquiry form!
