Hara Museum of Contemporary Art
The Hara Museum of Contemporary Art sits in a quiet residential neighborhood in Shinagawa, Tokyo.
The later period of the Hara Collection exhibition I’d visited before has begun, and as it coincided with the cherry blossoms coming into bloom, I paid it a visit.

Before I knew it, the season had turned and the cherry blossoms were in full, glorious bloom—the perfect timing.
The Hara Museum Collection by Toshio Hara [Later Period]
Apart from a few permanent installations, every work in this collection exhibition had been swapped out. The later period centered its display on contemporary artists.
This time I visited on an AFT card benefit, so I was able to get in for free. For the whole month of March, up to two people including yourself can enter free of charge—a real bargain.

Compared with the earlier period, I had the impression that more photographic works were on display.

What made an impression was Izumi Kato’s sculpture. It was a shame that Yoshitomo Nara was represented by just a single girl piece, but the room at the far end of the second floor, “My Drawing Room,” was as comfortable as ever, and I lost myself in it alone for a long while. Look closely and all sorts of things come into view—a delightful room. A top recommendation for Nara fans!
It’s a museum where you can relax and unwind whenever you come.
