[10th Anniversary · Part 1] "mograg 10th anniversary Exhibition 'ten'" @ Okachimachi

【10周年記念・前期】「mograg 10th anniversary Exhibition ‘てん’」@御徒町

Mograg gallery

I paid a visit to “Mograg gallery,” a gallery in Okachimachi.

mograg began in February 2008 as the art space “mograg garage.” In 2014 it opened a second location in Kyoto, the shared gallery “momurag,” and as the culmination of it all, in 2015 it relocated to Okachimachi and opened “mograg gallery,” a gallery dedicated to sending Japanese lowbrow art out into the world. This year it marks the 10th anniversary of its operation.

To celebrate this joyous milestone, we welcome the many artists who have been part of mograg over the years and present the mograg 10th Anniversary Exhibition “ten.”

A total of 52 artists (and groups) present works on the theme of “ten,” inviting you to look back on the path we have walked while sharing with all of you a place of exchange that marks a first step toward a new beginning for the next ten years. Please enjoy the exquisite “art” that we ourselves find truly fascinating.

The 10th-anniversary exhibition was on view. Congratulations!

“mograg 10th Anniversary Exhibition ‘ten’ — Part 1”

The three-dimensional work displayed right as you enter has real impact. Black, large, and imposing, it is actually a device that produces sound using air pressure — a fascinating piece.

The part hanging down at the back is the switch.

The Back Room

The back room, too, was filled with many three-dimensional and two-dimensional works — a liveliness befitting a 10th-anniversary event.

Both Part 1 and Part 2 run for about a week each.

10th Anniversary Commemorative Notebook

“It’s a gift for everyone,” they said, handing me a commemorative 10th-anniversary notebook. Thank you very much.

I hope they will continue to support Japanese art from the grassroots.
