Kotobuki Shiriagari
Hearing that there was an exhibition by the manga artist “Kotobuki Shiriagari,” I rushed all the way to Nagoya; the venue is Matsuzakaya Nagoya in Sakae.
Kotobuki Shiriagari’s world is in full bloom, entertaining you with a wide range of styles.
All the works on display were for sale, and I sensed a conscientiousness in the relatively affordable pricing.
Looking at the works, a brightness comes through that makes you think, “Let’s live joyfully.”
I feel an exquisite sense of timing, as if the boundary between manga and art has been erased.
Hanging scrolls — now that was a clever idea. The world so characteristic of Kotobuki Shiriagari remains unchanged, and the witty flavor was superb.
He has also taken on three-dimensional works, and I thoroughly enjoyed this nicely accomplished solo show.
Given the location, there were also elderly visitors such as senior couples, but everyone was enjoying themselves, and a warm atmosphere flowed through the space.
