[Group Exhibition] Ex Libris Are a Delight! "The 18th Doumu Print Exhibition" @ Shirota Gallery

【合同展】蔵書票が楽しい!「第18回銅夢版画展」@シロタ画廊

Shirota Gallery

“Shirota Gallery,” a gallery in Ginza 7-chome.

It’s a gallery set up on the first basement floor, and its appearance makes you hesitate a little before heading down the stairs, but when I descended the dim staircase and stepped inside, I was a little surprised to find it crowded with visitors.

The 18th Doumu Print Exhibition

“The 18th Doumu Print Exhibition,” which I visited this time, is an exhibition organized by a group of printmakers called “Doumu Print Studio.”

Many artists were showing a wide variety of works, making it plenty rewarding to see.

Prints tend to give a more understated impression than paintings, but there is a pleasure in stepping up close to a work and examining each and every line.

Ex Libris

What I paid particular attention to were the ex libris (bookplates). I’ve been thinking I’d like to make my own ex libris someday, and looking at each of the participating artists’ works, it’s delightful how many different worldviews there are.

They said you can even order a custom ex libris. I felt I’d like to decide on the direction I’m aiming for before moving forward.

Summary

It was an exhibition centered on small works, but with so many artists taking part, you’re bound to find pieces that suit you. Many of the artists were present in the gallery, and I was able to chat with them about all sorts of things.
