Masami Yanagida is an illustrator who is now hugely popular, especially among young women.
The exhibition I visited the other day was as packed as a bargain sale.

This same Masami Yanagida has now teamed up with the equally popular cheese tart shop “BAKE,” so I went to check it out.

Masami Yanagida × BAKE
The collaboration between Masami Yanagida and BAKE is for a limited time only. See the official announcement below for details.
From Friday, April 27 to Thursday, May 31, 2018, we will release a limited-edition special set combining original goods created in collaboration with popular illustrator Masami Yanagida and freshly baked cheese tarts.
In this collaboration, the BAKE CHEESE TART brand’s freshly baked cheese tarts and freshly baked strawberry cheese tarts are expressed through illustrations brimming with Masami Yanagida’s distinctive worldview. We have produced original goods such as stickers and can badges, sold as a special set together with freshly baked cheese tarts.
This product embodies the “Authentic & Joy” brand value that BAKE CHEESE TART strives for, and was born from our wish to deliver it to as many customers as possible.
In addition, we will hold in-store decorations at select stores and a popular-illustration voting campaign on our official Instagram (@bakecheesetart).

BAKE Storefront
I went to see the storefront in person.
Logos and illustrations created by Masami Yanagida are placed here and there.

Maybe it was just a bad time of day, but the line was only four or five people. Has the popularity cooled off since its peak?

Limited Collaboration Products
There are three collaboration products for sale: two kinds of stickers and a can badge set.
The pricing feels a bit on the high side; in fact, even when I went right before the campaign ended, they still hadn’t sold out.

At the exhibition, stickers were 500 yen for two, so the BAKE set isn’t exactly cheap — which seems like a misstep in the pricing strategy. Since it carries the shop’s logo, you’d think they’d lower the price instead…

As a fan, I bought the “cow sticker” set (702 yen incl. tax).

Lately she seems to be energetically active in all sorts of ways, such as making shopper bags in a collaboration with the magazine “SPUR.”

Ever since she was featured as “an artist recommended by TV personality Naomi Watanabe,” the good momentum has continued. We wish her ever greater success.
