I visited “NAKAMA de ART,” the limited-run gallery project organized by Shingo Katori.
On the opening day I visited, Shingo Katori himself and all the participating artists were on hand, making for a lively show.

‼︎Suspense Girl‼︎
The artist with the unusual name “Suspense Girl” is a young female artist in her 20s. All of the works in this exhibition take as their motif the “girl” featured in each title.
The first work to catch the eye is a sculpture: a life-sized figure without arms.
Her expression has an inorganic, almost futuristic robot-like quality.
On top of the hat, a small animal clings like a pet, and only that section seems to convey a sense of movement.
There are two drawings on display—pop, vivid works that seem to embody KAWAII culture itself.

“UNDEAD GIRL” (sculpture)
A girl battling the everyday while being buffeted by the rough waves of the city.
Regarding the flood of girls in similar clothes, makeup, and hairstyles that overrun the town as mass-produced clones, this work’s girl is No. 1032.
Inwardly she is frightened, yet she refuses to show her fragile side; she guards herself, presents a strong front, and dresses up as armor for her heart. It is a work that envisions the fighting woman of our time.[Highlights]
Girls struggling within the context of their era. The glamour and strength unique to women, yet on the other hand, the invisible cries within the heart and the sense of confinement—these are what the work seeks to express.
Suspense Girl herself is a beautiful woman, and she seemed to draw strong support from the many Shingo Katori fans in attendance.
