I visited the group exhibition “Seven Fresh Green” being held at Kobayashi Gallery. It is a show featuring seven artists represented by the gallery.
Surprisingly, Kobayashi Gallery will be relocating from its current spot in Ginza 7-chome, and this exhibition will be the last one before the move. I wonder what the next location will be like…
Takeshi Tanaka
Displayed in the show window facing the street was a large-scale work by Takeshi Tanaka.
A horse, an umbrella, pink tights, sunglasses, headphones… The excellence of the combination is superb, and together with the background that even looks golden, it forms an exciting work. It is far too large a piece for me to reach for, but if it were a smaller work, I would definitely want to consider adding it to my collection. It is a wonderful, dynamic piece.
Paintings of horses are difficult to pull off, but this smaller work is also lovely.
He comes across as an artist with strong spatial composition and painterly skill.

Reina Yahoi
Rina Yokouchi
Rina Yokouchi was an artist I was seeing for the first time, and her work has real character and is very intriguing.
She appears to be a young artist, yet she seems to have an uncompromising world of her own. She is an artist worth keeping an eye on.
Chisato Tanaka
Several works by Chisato Tanaka, including new pieces, were also on display.
Chisato Tanaka keeps her core steady while drawing from a rich variety of registers, and that is what makes her work so enjoyable.
She is one of my personal favorite artists.
Izumi Akiyama
The works of Izumi Akiyama were astonishing.
The two pieces, drawn with a single pencil, look up close like printed monochrome photographs—a quality so refined that you cannot sense the pencil at all.
The large works carry real presence, and I took my time appreciating them.
Conclusion
With such a broad range of artists, this was a truly rewarding exhibition full of pleasure and depth.
I look forward to seeing what Kobayashi Gallery will bring in their new location.
