After viewing Tomo Tanaka’s miniature works on show at POLA MUSEUM ANNEX, just a one-minute walk away, I stopped by the solo exhibition of Shiori Furuishi held at Fujiya Gallery.

The largest work, displayed at the back of the gallery, “In the Forest Where Azure Falls,” is a grand piece measuring 210cm×240cm.
Placed at the very back of the gallery, it was a work whose appeal came through more strongly when viewed from a distance than up close.
Shiori Furuishi is a Nihonga (Japanese-style painting) artist who takes plants such as trees and flowers as her motifs; the softness of her pigments comes through in her colors, seeming to draw the whole atmosphere of the gallery together into one.
They are landscape paintings, yet they carry an atmosphere as though a landscape of the mind has been layered over them.
Bathed in that gentle air, I was able to spend a truly pleasant time.
