Tomoko Nagai Exhibition 2006 – 2018 “The Peach-Pink and Rose-Colored Atelier: Magic”

I went to Tomoko Nagai’s solo exhibition, held at the gallery in Shibuya Hikarie.

This solo exhibition, which gathered and presented works spanning the 12 years since 2006, spread Nagai’s world across the entire space just like the solo show I had seen before, unfolding a joyful, healing space that feels like wandering into another world. It is exactly the “world of peach-pink and rose” that the exhibition title speaks of.

The time I have spent in the atelier has been peach-pink and rose-colored, and magical.
There is a work by Matisse called “The Pink Studio.” It is a work I love dearly.
Over these 12 years I have had several ateliers, and every one of them was a beloved space.
Works born of many days — even some very old ones — will be shown.
And, of course, new works too.
It is thrilling and exciting.

Tomoko Nagai

Even though it was opening day, red stickers had already been placed, hinting at just how popular it was.

The works depicting girls, rabbits, and bears as motifs are adorable.

Nagai’s works always have elaborate frames — some she makes herself, and the stylish, sumptuous framing prepared to match each work is a delight to behold.

As you take in the gentleness the works emit and their simple, cute expression, you begin to feel as if the stress you feel in social life is dissolving and melting away.

At the gallery, apart from the exhibition, I was also able to look through a file of drawings. These, too, were for sale, at very affordable prices.

Thank you again for such wonderful works.
