Design Festa vol.47

The spring Design Festa (commonly called “Desafes”) vol.47 — this time we visited on the opening day (May 12, 2018).

Our greatest aim (?) this time was to stop by the booth of Japanese-style painter Yuko Nakazono.

Yuko Nakazono

Yuko Nakazono is an artist who commands two distinct genres — “Japanese-style painting” and “pen drawing” — each with its own palette and worldview. She is based in Kumamoto and made the trip all the way to Tokyo for this event.

For this outing she showed six original works, alongside postcards and mugs — very much in the spirit of Design Festa.

Yuko Nakazono greeted us with warmth and kindness, and we had the pleasure of chatting about many things.

We also learned that she has a solo exhibition planned for the fall. It will center on her Japanese-style paintings — another must-see!

Yuko Nakazono Solo Exhibition

Schedule: November 19 – 24, 2018

Venue: Ginza Gallery Bi no Kigen (Tokyo)

She told us that for figure work, she is more at home with larger canvases than small ones. The pen drawings on show this time were mostly small in scale, but at her next solo show we can look forward to seeing larger pieces.

She kindly signed a postcard for us.

We can’t wait to see what she does next!
