A Form That Exists Without Going There
I visited “Gallery Shin,” a gallery located about 15 minutes on foot from Ueno.
The exhibition I visited this time was titled “A Form That Exists Without Going There.” As the tagline “What happens when two galleries in cities 1,000 km apart are connected through a monitor?” suggests, it was a project in which two galleries — one in Ueno, Tokyo, and one in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture — were connected simultaneously via web cameras.
This event is an experimental one that, via Dunksoft’s digital technology, connects GALLERY Shin online with Gallery JIBITA in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture — 1,000 km from Tokyo — to try out what happens when people in different spaces communicate through shopping and dining. Going forward, we plan to accumulate further experiments, with a dream of eventually connecting to the world at large.
We would love as many people as possible to take part in this event, which is our very first attempt toward that dream.
Let us together enjoy a new form of encounter and exchange, one made possible in an age that can erase the barrier of distance.
Through a monitor set up in the venue, visitors could converse with the gallerist in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, about the works on view. He was highly knowledgeable and gave thoughtful answers to our questions.

The gallery is a two-story space that is quite spacious, allowing me to take my time viewing the works. Prices were relatively affordable, so I ended up purchasing a few myself. It was an enjoyable project.
