Access to Hiratsuka City Museum of Art
The exhibition I recently visited at the Hiratsuka City Museum of Art was excellent.

However, Hiratsuka City Museum of Art is about one hour from Tokyo, plus a further 20-minute walk from the station — a distance that makes it hard to muster the motivation to travel all the way there (a personal impression, of course).
Yet the presence of “Eight” — a Western-style restaurant that I personally love — means that a trip to Hiratsuka City Museum of Art is no burden at all; the pleasure of the outing is doubled. Today, I would like to introduce that very restaurant.
Yoshoku Restaurant “Eight”
The name “Eight” is a play on the auspicious character “八” (eight), whose shape widens outward. Inside, the interior tastefully incorporates a retro atmosphere, giving the space plenty of character.
The dinner menu offers a great many options, but the lunch menu is simple.
This time I ordered the B Lunch (1,500 yen).
The drink menu is as follows. I ordered a beer (650 yen).
A cold soup was served with it. Edamame soup — delicious!
And then the B Lunch: a hamburg steak, crab cream croquette, and fried shrimp.
The hamburg steak in particular, with its demi-glace sauce simmered for seven days, is seriously delicious — an absolute masterpiece!
I enjoyed the fried shrimp with tartar sauce. The crab cream croquette was superb as well.
The restaurant is small — 8 table seats and 4 counter seats. Even so, it is a yoshoku restaurant packed with care and dedication, one that gently warms the heart. I recommend it as a stop before visiting Hiratsuka City Museum of Art. It is about 5 minutes from the station, and roughly a further 15-minute walk to the museum.
