The square SM size, SSM.
With a compact size of “227×227mm,” artists may not often paint at this size, but for some reason I often end up needing to frame it.

However, ready-made frames in this size are hard to find, with almost no options. I inevitably end up relying on custom orders. And custom orders mean the price goes up.
There are frames like the one below, but they don’t fit works you want to show with relatively wide margins. It’s a frame I wouldn’t recommend for the “I want to frame with room to spare” camp.
The work I’m considering framing this time is below: Yuki Koyano’s “Spiral Group Figures.” Since the work is also painted on the sides of the canvas, I wanted to frame it taking wider margins so the sides are also visible.
After searching around, I couldn’t find a good product other than this frame for taking wide margins at SSM size…

Framing
I actually framed it myself. I also bought the wood screws needed for framing at the same time (¥4 each).
When screwing, flip it over while sandwiching the work with the included board.
Since this frame’s inner dimension is “290mm,” it might be good to look for an S3-size (273×273mm) frame—I realized later. But S3 size doesn’t have many options either.
Incidentally, in my case, I often buy ready-made frames by mail order from the super-cheap shop “Matsueda.”
