Yuki Inoue “salaMandala / RIDE”

We visited the solo exhibition of Yuki Inoue, an artist who creates sculptural and three-dimensional works with the salamander as his main motif. The venue is the A/D Gallery at Roppongi Hills.

Artist Statement — Yuki Inoue
The core theme of my work is “evolution.”
The creatures I use as motifs undergo metamorphosis at a certain point in their lives, and I sense both hope and resolve in the moment they cross that threshold. Through them I imagine the growth of human beings and the evolution of humankind — this is the source of my creative activity.
From the beginning of my practice I have used stone, but in recent years I have shifted to chemical materials in search of greater freedom of form.
This change in material is not merely a change of medium but part of my own process of “evolution,” and by layering it with the traditions and folklore handed down in Japan, it is also an attempt to develop it into something even newer.

Three-dimensional works

I visited during the middle of the run, but sales of the three-dimensional works were strong — everything except the largest pieces had already sold out.

Many of the works are charming, and they were also very popular with female visitors.

Giclée works

 

These are print works, but the giclée prints — limited to an edition of 30 — were available at an accessible price of 17,280 yen (tax included).

The worldview throughout the gallery was seamlessly unified, and I felt as if I had been swallowed up by salamanders.
