Satoshi Noguchi “No Tales”
We visited a solo exhibition by Satoshi Noguchi, who is currently enrolled in the Oil Painting Course of the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts. This is his first solo exhibition.
He is an artist we had also taken note of at the joint exhibition “Shinkiro” by third-year Tokyo University of the Arts students that we visited previously.

“I was born in Fukaya in the northern part of Saitama Prefecture, and grew up in an environment too far from the city center to be called a suburb, yet not picturesque like the countryside either — where a river meant nothing more than a concrete-lined ditch. Time has passed from the days when this town flourished with brick-making and the spinning industry, and my grandfather earned his living in sericulture; now, something is quietly beginning to close. Amid this air of decline, I sense the source of the emptiness that people carry within themselves. Giving concrete form to its true nature — that, I think, is the purpose of my current creative practice.” (Satoshi Noguchi)
All works are titled “no title.”
Relying on his own sensibility, he attempts to paint “paintings not yet seen,” and it feels as though our sensibility as viewers is being tested as well.
