[Geisai 2018] Vivid Oil Paintings of Flowers — Aoi Furutani

There was a joint exhibition titled “Shinkiro (Mirage),” featuring students then in their third year at Tokyo University of the Arts.
This show was truly memorable, and I was able to take in the works of many students with a lasting impression.

One of the artists who stayed with me was Aoi Furutani.
Her works of flowers layered over vivid backgrounds were extraordinarily striking, and remain burned into my memory to this day.

Geisai 2018

“Geisai,” the school festival held each year at Tokyo University of the Arts, is a once-a-year “gigantic group show” where visitors can enjoy the many works created by the students.
It’s a chance to find promising future artists, and by following the same artists year after year one can trace how their work evolves and confirm their growth.
Works by Aoi Furutani, who has now advanced from “Shinkiro” to her fourth year, were on display.
