rooms EXPERIENCE
“rooms EXPERIENCE,” a joint trade show for fashion and design.
While the event is open to the general public, it is hosted by H.P.FRANCE and draws many industry insiders including press and buyers.
Designers and creators chasing the latest trends are among the exhibitors, and since visitors can speak directly with the makers themselves, it is an especially enjoyable event.

Moe Yamashita
Poppy ceramics that catch the eye at a glance, leaping out in a rainbow of vivid color — these are the works of ceramic artist Moe Yamashita.
We happened upon her memorable Tokyo debut at this show.
Moe Yamashita’s work stands out for a number of distinctive, original qualities.
- Above all, a colorful palette — with variations achieved by applying color before or after firing
- Unique motifs in the overglaze painting
- Gold used as an accent at key points
- A range of firing techniques, so each work has its own character
- Dynamic forms that never grow tiresome
- They can be displayed as artworks — and of course, they are functional!

She kindly taught me many things — about how porcelain has a fine grain and smooth color pickup during overglaze painting; about semi-porcelain; about unglazed high-fired ware (yakishime); and so on.

I was drawn to so many aspects of the work — the design, the tactile quality, the use of color — that I purchased a few pieces.
She has a young child, so her production pace may be slower for a while, but several upcoming projects seem already to be lined up. I look forward with great anticipation to her continued activity.
