[Solo Exhibition] From Summer to Autumn — Akio Kawai @ Gallery Naufu Gendai (Gifu)

【個展】季節は夏から秋に・・・川井昭夫@ギャラリーなうふ現代(岐阜)

Before I know it, my feet always seem to carry me to Naufu Gendai.
This gallery — reached from Gifu Station by bus and a short walk — is a contemporary art gallery near Mount Kinka.

This time I dropped in to see works from the gallery’s own collection, but I was fortunate enough to arrive during an exhibition.
It was a solo show by the veteran artist Akio Kawai. Born in 1948, he turned 70 in 2018.

There's also a cafe corner — the gallery serves excellent coffee.

The works in this exhibition are quite small, so I took a panoramic photo of the gallery interior, but it doesn’t really convey much.

When you enter the gallery, this is the scene that unfolds. The works are so small that you can’t really make them out until you step closer.

The works are so small that when I first walked in I found myself thinking "wait, where?"

Up close, you see that they are beautifully painted on FRP with oil paints.
《Summer and Autumn Grasses》— what a perfectly timed exhibition.

Each piece has a different expression.

The back is hollow — I was tempted to slip a light inside.

The linen drawing is a piece in which lines are drawn in acrylic along the fibers of the linen. You can feel the meticulous care in the work.

A quiet, calming gallery.
The works, too, stood quietly in place.
