I visited Niko Hirano’s debut solo exhibition, held at Miura Jiro Gallery.
Niko Hirano’s technique involves drawing with colored pencils and then painting over them with light watercolors. Because of the delicate hues, the expression cannot be accurately conveyed even in photographs.
The works depict female figures in colors that seem about to disappear at any moment, and their ephemeral expressions overlaid with faint hues portray delicate, gentle women.
Judging by the artist name “Niko Hirano” and the style of the works, I had mistakenly assumed the artist was a woman, but in person he was as gentle and calm as his works.
