Yotsuya Mikakunin Studio
We visited the second exhibition to be held at Mikakunin Studio.
The first was a solo show by Yu Kurosaka, but this time it is a group show featuring eleven artists, titled “Painting / Motion (Rough Dimension).” The run is divided into three terms: first, middle, and final.
Unlike ordinary galleries that offer free admission, exhibitions at Yotsuya Mikakunin Studio charge a fee (700 yen for this show).
Though this is only our second visit, the writer has grown very fond of this place.
Amid the doubts and struggles that these young artists let flicker in and out of view, there is a sense of surging energy — a feeling that something is about to be born.
Painting / Motion (Rough Dimension)
“Painting / Motion (Rough Dimension)” is a project title that has been used before.
Following this show, there will be a two-week pause, and then the middle and final terms will unfold.
The rhythm of the project is brisk — new works are produced during the intervals.
It’s hard to predict what the results of such short three-day runs will be, but as a bold experiment, I want to keep watching until the end.
Although this is a paid-admission project, works are also for sale.
Unfortunately, none of the works found buyers this time.
It may be a matter of the brief, all-out schedule.
Two weeks from now the “middle” term opens, followed at the same interval by the “final” term.
Yotsuya Mikakunin Studio will also function as a production space.
What kind of works will be shown, and what results will they finally produce? I look forward to finding out.
