[Solo Exhibition] Yuka Sakuma "Pure White and Pure Black" @ Miura Jiro Gallery

【個展】佐久間友香「真っ白と真っ黒」@みうらじろうギャラリー

We visited Yuka Sakuma’s solo exhibition. The venue is Miura Jiro Gallery.

—Pure white: that nothing is there.
—Pure black: to become single-minded.

I think about the world of “what if.”
“What if” is regret, and it is hope.

Every day is a chain of choices — some paths I took without a second thought, others I chose only after long deliberation.

Returning to the countless forks in the road, I let my mind wander through the “what ifs.”
I built my world by piling up “what if, back then.”

I met a pure-white me and a pure-black me.

I will present fifteen Nihonga works, mostly new pieces.
I look forward to your visit.

Yuka Sakuma

Yuka Sakuma paints singular young women within an aestheticist worldview.
Each work builds its own inventive world, so within a single gallery a multitude of stories coexisted.

The strange world painted in the F50-size major work Nesting in a Dream was captivating.
The motifs and props, the perspective, the composition — a piece full of conviction. Wonderful!
