ARIGATO SAKURAGAOKA
Ahead of the Shibuya redevelopment, works by more than 30 artists are converging on a single building in Sakuragaoka-cho slated for demolition at the end of 2018.
The event’s name: “ARIGATO SAKURAGAOKA Produced by ART PHOTO TOKYO.”
In a space lined with the latest art — starting with photography — a “Shibuya”-flavored interactive art event unfolds, complete with a fully loaded program of talk shows and DJ / live music.
The run is Friday, November 16 – Sunday, December 2, 2018 — only Thursdays through Sundays, a compact 11 days total.
The lineup for “ARIGATO SAKURAGAOKA” is, above all, absolutely stacked with big names.
Nobuyoshi Araki, Jiro Konami, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Kishin Shinoyama, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Ryan McGinley, Leslie Kee… — a gorgeous roster of works will be on display, and it’s worth noting that pieces will also be available for purchase.
The Tokyo debut of works from “Ai・Kirin Kiki,” a photography exhibition shot by Leslie Kee and held in Nara Prefecture in September, will be presented, alongside new work shot in Shibuya by HIROMIX.
From fine-art photography to work by artists representing a new era of culture, the lineup crisscrosses generations and cultures — a project well worth watching.
On top of that, the 5.1ch surround version “async surround” — effectively the completion of “async,” Ryuichi Sakamoto’s first new album in eight years and internationally acclaimed — will be presented in high-fidelity playback, alongside daily talk shows and DJ / live events.
