Keiko Sootome’s Mount Fuji Exhibition
I visited the solo exhibition of the celebrated illustrator Keiko Sootome, known for her active work as a “deflated gekiga artist.”
The venue is the illustration gallery “Gallery House MAYA.”
It sits within short walking distance of the wonderful “Maho Kubota Gallery” in Gaienmae, so the two make an efficient pair to visit together.
Following the format of “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji,” the exhibition features 36 works — every one of them unmistakably Sootome.
With the show timed for year-end, a “Mount Fuji Exhibition 2019 Calendar” was also on sale.
The original works featured in the calendar were displayed for exhibition and purchase.
A train-loving woman “Tetsuko” dashes on roller skates, camera in hand, against a backdrop of Mount Fuji and autumn leaves.
You could easily pick up something at a modest price.
Even small pieces that are personal favorites of Sootome carry higher price tags.
You can already sense the talent… it’s in the blood!
And that’s already priced in — starting at 30,000 yen (tax included). Quite an accessible feel.
