Selected Art Fair 2018 “Shu Shu Shu Show”
“Shu Shu Shu Show,” the program we so enjoyed last year, returned in 2018. The venue was again Spiral Garden in Omotesando. Our coverage of the previous edition is summarized below.
What makes “Shu Shu Shu Show” so fascinating is that many carefully selected artworks are gathered together in one place, and, above all, the works are actually available for purchase.
When even works by famous artists who exhibit at major museums are on sale, the distance between viewers and art shrinks in an instant. (Setting the prices aside, of course.)
It is delightfully strange to see a compact version of a work in a series that we saw at a museum being offered for sale.
Of course, prominent Japanese artists are also participating. Ai Yamaguchi delivered a wonderful work as always. You aren’t obliged to buy — simply enjoying the viewing is perfectly fine.
Encountering so many artworks that may actually be within reach makes them feel closer to us than the celebrated pieces we admire from a distance at large museum exhibitions. Why not consider bringing an artwork into your daily life?
