[Museum Visit] Recommended Ways to Get to the Akita Museum of Modern Art from Tokyo

【美術館探訪】東京から「秋田県立近代美術館」に行くオススメの方法

There was an exhibition I absolutely had to see, so I traveled from Tokyo to the Akita Museum of Modern Art.

The exhibition I visited was Tomoko Konoike’s. It was a superb art exhibition.

The Akita Museum of Modern Art is located in the city of Yokote, Akita Prefecture, and it is not easy to reach.
Even from Tokyo to Akita, the shinkansen takes 4 hours.
The most accessible route is “about 1 hour by plane from Haneda to Akita Airport, then about 40 minutes by car from Akita Airport.”

Akita Prefecture is a car-centric region, so a rental car is recommended. I paid about 6,000 yen for a 1-night, 2-day rental car, plus about 1,500 yen for gas — a total of about 7,500 yen, including a tour around the Akita region.

Sculptures are also placed around the surroundings, giving it a spacious layout.

The Akita Museum of Modern Art occupies the upper floors (5th and 6th floors) of a building within a facility called Furusato Mura, and as you can see, the first floor is bustling with souvenir shops and restaurants.
The local specialty Yokote yakisoba and ramen are recommended.
