“Future Artists Tokyo — EЯLection of Anonymous”
Within the Art Fair Tokyo 2019 venue, a selected team of students, in collaboration with art universities across Japan, will present “Future Artists Tokyo”—an exhibition in which they handle everything from artmaking and curation to installation.
“Future Artists Tokyo” is an exhibition built by students studying art in Japan, drawing on each of their fields of study.
Not only through the creation of exhibited works, but also through selecting works, setting themes, planning the display, installing, and running the show, they gain hands-on experience—with the goal of nurturing the next generation of artists and curators capable of working on an international stage.
Following the inaugural edition in March 2018 with six schools participating, the second edition brings together 38 students selected from 101 representatives of 19 universities, alongside 7 students studying art production. Featured works include those of Chisato Matsumoto (Hiroshima City University), who held a public dyeing performance at Roppongi Art Night 2018, as well as pieces by students who have won various awards across Japan—all curated by young students with rich imaginations. From every corner of the country, students of great promise gather to open the doors of Art Fair Tokyo 2019.
