I visited Nana Monden’s solo exhibition “Hissei.” The venue is Shikisaisha, a gallery in Kyobashi, Tokyo.
Nana Monden paints women with elongated necks. On first encountering her work, I found myself pondering the meaning of those “long necks.”
The long neck reads as the stem of a flower — a portrait of a woman as a bloom set in a vase.
Lined up in the gallery, each woman accompanied by a flower of her season, the space was filled with color.
