I went to the much-talked-about special exhibition “The Lineage of Eccentrics: The Miraculous World of Edo Painting.”The content was so rich, of a quality almost too much to fully digest.

An exhibition this packed really calls for a proper review once you get home!
I visited the museum shop to pick up the hefty exhibition catalogue (it’s at the end of the route).

The official catalogue includes all 113 exhibited works by eight “eccentric” painters of the Edo period: Iwasa Matabei, Kano Sansetsu, Ito Jakuchu, Soga Shohaku, Nagasawa Rosetsu, and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, plus Hakuin Ekaku and Suzuki Kiitsu.

Recent large-scale art exhibitions (blockbuster shows) are striking in how rich their goods have become.
At this show too, many items were commercialized, and the sales corner was dazzlingly laid out.
