The 67th Tokyo University of the Arts Graduation Works Exhibition
The annual Tokyo University of the Arts Graduation Works Exhibition was held from January 28 to February 3, 2019.
Yukimasa Ida — a young artist attracting considerable attention — was among the participants, and we headed to the Geidai campus in Ueno, Tokyo, surprised at the fact: “Is he still a student!?”
We had been under the impression that he had graduated quite some time ago…
What surprised us was that four watercolor paintings were on display.
They were shown carefully framed as well.
From his lifework 《End of today》 series, he presented two portrait works.
The new bronze sculpture is modeled on Bob.
His large-scale work 《Reunion》 was superb. A magnificent piece!
Looking closely at 《Reunion》, all kinds of brush strokes and paint traces can be discovered.
Yet “so skillful…” — the impression comes out with a sigh. Truly wonderful.
Comments suggested that campus life may not always have been particularly fulfilling for Yukimasa Ida, but we saw firsthand the record with which he concludes his school years — presenting oil paintings, watercolors, and sculpture across multiple disciplines.
We look forward to continuing to support him as his artistic journey ahead flourishes.
