Having studied both Western painting and ink painting at university, Chris Huen Sin Kan is known for a brushwork that shows the influence of ink painting.
Using poppy-seed oil to reduce the viscosity of oil paint, he depicts his subjects with an ink-painting-like touch.

His motifs are drawn from scenes around himself and his family, and every work features a dog.

Within the works one also notices variations in luminosity, which are said to express the flow of time and memory through color.

Only five large-scale works were on view. All of them had already sold out.

The large works, with their gentle colors, displayed in the white-cube gallery space, made for a very comfortable viewing experience.

Despite being oil paintings, they have the freshness of watercolors, and the motifs convey a sense of gentleness.
This young painter has begun to attract attention around the world — Shanghai, London, New York — and I look forward to following his work.
