Satoshi Uchiumi “Soft Paintings”
Running concurrently with “The VOCA Exhibition 2019: The Vision of Contemporary Art — New Artists in the Plane” at The Ueno Royal Museum is Satoshi Uchiumi’s solo exhibition “Soft Paintings” at The Ueno Royal Museum Gallery.
Satoshi Uchiumi participated in “The VOCA Exhibition 2005,” and just as Ai Kumehara — an artist whose motif is the plum blossom — held a solo exhibition here last January, the timing is right for Uchiumi, whose works evoke cherry blossom motifs, to be exhibited now.
Uchiumi’s works are created by applying dot after dot with brushes and cotton swabs.
The works, framed within acrylic boxes tinted in various colors, are presented in a way that recalls viewing through colored glasses. It is a design that makes the viewer want to take those glasses off and see the work bare.
The exhibition also includes “Distant Painting,” rendered on a star-shaped shaped canvas.
Satoshi Uchiumi, who drew great attention at the Mitsukoshi booth at Art Fair Tokyo 2019, is sure to attract even more fans with this exhibition!
