[Art Fair Tokyo 2019] Yuichi Hirako "AFT2019 & AIPHT2019 Double Show" @ YIRI ARTS

Yuichi Hirako

Yuichi Hirako made an appearance at Art Fair Tokyo 2019.
What was surprising, however, was the exhibiting gallery. No works were shown at his Japan-based representing gallery “WAITINGROOM”; instead, they were exhibited by the Hong Kong gallery “YIRI ARTS” at the booth directly opposite.

Why is that…?

Yuichi Hirako is an artist who actively works overseas — his support abroad is even stronger than in Japan, and his contract galleries differ by country. This may well count as a curious phenomenon that speaks to the international character of a fair like Art Fair Tokyo.

Furthermore, YIRI ARTS was also participating in “ART in PARK HOTEL TOKYO 2019,” meaning that Yuichi Hirako’s works were presented across two venues. As one would expect from Hirako!

At Art Fair Tokyo, the show was staged at the YIRI ARTS booth in the “Galleries” section.

New ceramic works were on view.

It seems additional works were also added on the final day of the fair. Wonderful!

YIRI ARTS also participated in the concurrently held event “ART in PARK HOTEL TOKYO 2019.”

New sculptural works were lined up here as well, drawing considerable attention from visitors.

We rarely have the chance to see this many of Yuichi Hirako’s works in one place.
Watching an artist take on new territories is truly encouraging.
