Bernard Frize
We visited the solo exhibition of Bernard Frize, born in France in 1954. The venue is Perrotin Tokyo in Roppongi.
A retrospective is scheduled at the Centre Pompidou, National Museum of Modern Art (Paris) in May 2019, and this show runs concurrently with a solo exhibition at Kaikai Kiki Gallery.
What stands out is the way the paint is woven together without gaps, as if knitted.

The choice of colors, the thickness of the brush, the location and order on the canvas — everything is laid out precisely, and the works are then produced by several pairs of hands.
Looking at the paintings, you fall into a spiral of thought: how is the brush moving here…? in what order was this painted…? And yet, even while wondering, you find yourself drawn in, wrapped in a strange and comfortable presence.
