Stickymonger “On a Clear Day”
I visited the first solo exhibition in Japan by Stickymonger, a Korean-born female artist based in New York.
The venue is “Hidari Zingaro,” a Kaikai Kiki-affiliated gallery in Nakano Broadway.
Just before this solo exhibition, her work was also prominently featured at Art Basel Hong Kong, drawing considerable attention from visitors.
The solo exhibition was centered on the 3rd-floor main venue, and also extended to the 4th-floor exhibition space and the 2nd-floor cafe.
3rd Floor
The main solo exhibition venue mainly featured relatively large-scale works.
The works have a matiere that looks as though acrylic paint has been sprayed onto canvas.

On the 2nd floor, works were displayed inside the cafe “Bar Zingaro.”
According to the staff, you can view the works even without ordering. *Some consideration is given to visiting customers.
Rather than the color works, I felt drawn into the sense of depth in the monochrome pieces.
The prices are quintessentially Kaikai Kiki — bullish. Even small works are around 1 million yen, and large works around 1.6 million yen.
Still, this is a gallery that reliably raises the prices of the artists it represents. Prices are surely set to climb further from here.
