Shunsuke Ochi is a young artist who recently graduated from the Department of Architecture at Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai).
He resolved to leave the field of architecture and pursue painting instead, and this solo exhibition marks a step in that direction.

The works are digital outputs of original pieces painted in acrylic and pen.
The colors are beautifully sharp and vivid. It felt as though he has studied printing techniques quite deeply.

The piece “Two Bodhisattvas,” previously exhibited at Shoonji Temple in Kodaira, was outstanding.

Representing Seishi Bodhisattva—the symbol of wisdom—and Kannon Bodhisattva—the symbol of compassion—as male and female figures, this is a “Neo Deity-and-Buddha Painting” born of Ochi’s own interpretation.
His approach to facial expression is very cool, with a strong presence.

A piece from his high-school days. Perhaps a message about walking the path of a painter.

The prints are produced by inkjet.
Buyers could choose their preferred size, with the original artwork’s dimensions as the upper limit.
I was astonished at how affordable the prices were, yet the quality of the works was excellent.

The detailed drawing skills characteristic of an architecture graduate were particularly striking.
