[Group Show] A Young Artist Cutting Into a Space Held by Renowned Names — "Door Into Summer / M's collection +" @ MAHO KUBOTA GALLERY

【合同展】著名作家の空間に切り込む若手作家〜「Door Into Summer / M’s collection +」@MAHO KUBOTA GALLERY

Door Into Summer / M’s collection +

I visited the exhibition being held at MAHO KUBOTA GALLERY.
The timing was just after Tokyo entered its rainy season.
“Door Into Summer” — a lovely-sounding title, isn’t it?

Alongside major names such as Lichtenstein and Katz, the credits included Takanosuke Yasui, an artist I had been watching closely for some time, so I was looking forward to it.
The overwhelming presentation I saw at the Geidai graduation exhibition remains seared into my memory.

Yasui’s works were displayed on two facing walls.
The presence created by the 123cm × 92.5cm large-scale piece 《John Lurie》 was especially memorable.

Takanosuke Yasui’s works held their own even next to world-renowned artists, radiating a strong presence.

I felt the gallery space was almost dominated by the atmosphere of Yasui’s works.
His large piece 《John Lurie》 already had a blue sticker (reserved) attached.
It’s hard to convey in photos, but the matière created by acrylic, plaster, and cotton cloth is superb — a young artist whose future is well worth watching.

And how well Maho Kubota herself orchestrates such a show — impressive as always!
