Kanaria “When I’m with You the World is Bountiful”
We visited Kanaria’s solo exhibition “When I’m with You the World is Bountiful.” The venue is Zen Foto Gallery in Roppongi.

Kanaria, who lives and works in France, reportedly brought her large-scale piece “Partager” from Paris rolled up. Flying from Paris to Tokyo with her work in tow and simply hanging it on the wall of a Roppongi gallery — I thought it was such a cool, stylish way to mount a show.

Kanaria’s oil paintings are made by partially layering oil paint on canvas and, before the paint dries, overlaying colored pencil on top of it.

Some works also incorporated a translucent quality.
The motifs were bright, and every piece felt uplifting and positive.
Erotic imagery was frequent, but it was carried with brightness and lightness — never lewd, and always likable in its expression.
