Teppei Takeda Art Book “PAINTINGS OF PAINTING”
Coinciding with the artist Teppei Takeda’s first Tokyo solo exhibition, a commemorative exhibition for the publication of his art book “PAINTINGS OF PAINTING” was held at Morioka Shoten’s Ginza branch.

The art book features a striking design in which Kenmei Nagaoka’s 2014 collection piece “PAINTING OF PAINTING 003” is reproduced at actual size as a poster, folded so that it wraps around the volume as its binding.
The meticulous attention to design is unmistakably Teppei Takeda’s—befitting his background at the Makoto Saito Design Studio.
The book’s design was handled by Fabien Baron of New York.
One of the world’s most renowned art directors, Baron has spent decades helming campaigns for Calvin Klein, Dior, and Zara, and served for roughly 30 years as creative director of “Interview” magazine. Drawn to Takeda’s work, he pursued his own aesthetics and perfectionism to create this volume.
In addition to the art book, standard versions of the folded poster (unfolded, i.e., not folded around the book) were on sale.
The limited edition of 60 posters attracted attention from collectors who had been unable to acquire an original work, and reportedly sold well.
Alongside the art book sales, one original work and one esquisse of an original work were on display (not for sale). Takeda’s works appear to be built up in thick impasto but are in fact characterized by a flat surface; the esquisse, however, was striking for its partial buildup of paint.
Apparently, before arriving at this esquisse, he produced somewhere between 20 and 50 preparatory sketches. It’s no wonder his work takes so much time.
Later, another edition of the poster with a different design was also released in limited quantities.
