Buy Art! Art Collectors’ Exhibition “Collectors’ Collective”

“Collectors’ Collective,” a project that introduces the works three art collectors added to their collections in 2019 alongside the artists they hope to acquire in 2020, has been confirmed. The venue is MEDEL GALLERY SHU, located on the second floor of the Imperial Hotel Plaza.

Participating Collectors

The three art collectors involved in “Collectors’ Collective” are as follows.

Exhibiting Collectors

1. HIRO (@sh_art_collector)
   Collects a wide range of contemporary art from street art to two-dimensional and three-dimensional works.
   Added approximately 50 works to his collection in 2019. His passion for the works runs high, and most recently he is advancing plans for a mural project in collaboration with an artist. He stands out among domestic art collectors.
2. Yorito Maseki (@sander_inazuma)
   Contemporary art collector. Collects contemporary art while working in the fashion industry.
   Has been collecting for three to four years. Focuses mainly on two-dimensional works by domestic artists, adding about 15 works to his collection in 2019. He values the balance of his collection, and has recently acquired major works by renowned artists. For this exhibition, he is recommending two student artists, showing his broad perspective on emerging artists as well.
3. art on Editor-in-Chief Mahiro Kobayashi (@burart_jp) *Administrator of this site
   Editor-in-chief of the art web media “art on.”
   Collects mainly paintings, prints, and sculptures by emerging domestic artists. Has been collecting for three to four years. Added approximately 40 works to his collection in 2019.
   Frames and keeps his collected works whenever possible. While running the media outlet, he also creates real-life opportunities for collectors to interact, driving networking events involving artists and stakeholders.

Exhibition Plan

“Collectors’ Collective” consists of two projects.
The first is a project that exhibits “the works collected in 2019” by the three art collectors, together with new works by the exhibiting artists shown and sold at the same time.

The second is a project inviting artists whom each collector wants to “add to their collection in 2020!” to exhibit and sell new works. *Although it goes against the spirit of the project, the three collectors and other organizers do not hold priority purchase rights.

The participating artists are as follows.

Shunsuke Ochi, Yusuke Kitsukawa, Kurumi Kotani, Erika Sato, Masataka Sato, Genshou Sugawara, Tomomi Taoka, Shozo Taniguchi, Yuma Tomiyasu, Bell Nakai, Nanae Mitobe, Takanosuke Yasui, Atsuko Yamashita, Shohei Yamamoto, Eboshi Yuasa (in Japanese syllabary order)

Events

We are also considering event programs for collectors during the exhibition period.

Currently confirmed is a plan to invite a Tokyo-based framing shop to talk about framing.
We plan to hear not only about framing that enhances works for display in daily life, but also from the perspective of preservation and storage as art objects.
We are also planning opportunities for collectors to connect with one another (networking event).
