ELLE LOVES ART
We attended the opening reception of “ELLE LOVES ART,” an art exhibition commemorating the 30th anniversary of the fashion magazine ELLE Japon. The venue was KASHIYAMA DAIKANYAMA.
Marking the magazine’s 30th anniversary, this project presents works by 30 artists and creators active both in Japan and abroad, structured in two parts.
The World They See — 30 Years of Japanese Female Artists
Part 1 is “The World They See — 30 Years of Japanese Female Artists,” curated by Mami Kataoka, Deputy Director and Chief Curator of the Mori Art Museum.
The five keywords that have defined ELLE across its 30 years — “Empowerment,” “Humour,” “Voice Up,” “Curiosity,” and “Journalism” — resonate with the perspectives of 15 Japanese female artists who have been active in the global art world throughout that period.
Participating artists: AKI INOMATA, Sachiko Kazama, Mari Katayama, Aki Kondo, Aki Sasamoto, Chiharu Shiota, Rika Noguchi, Kimiyo Mishima, Aiko Miyanaga, Yuko Mohri, Mariko Mori, Miwa Yanagi, Chikako Yamashiro, Mika Yoshizawa, and Tomoko Yoneda — an exhibition by these 15 female artists.
15 “LOVES” and an Auction
Part 2, “15 ‘LOVES’ and an Auction,” is a project in which figures active across various artistic fields exhibit new works on the theme of “LOVE.” A silent auction for a portion of the works was held on a special web page, with all proceeds donated to organizations working on environmental protection, disaster recovery, and women’s support.

The reception venue was wrapped in a glamorous atmosphere befitting ELLE, with a wide range of guests — models chief among them — turning out to make it a dazzling, lively affair.
