“The Time We Each Live”
“MAM Collection” is a series that introduces works from the Mori Art Museum’s holdings.
This edition featured “The Time We Each Live,” a two-person project by Shizuka Yokomizo and Tomona Matsukawa.
Shizuka Yokomizo
Shizuka Yokomizo’s video work dates back to 2003, making it somewhat older.
It captures four retired British pianists playing Chopin’s “Waltz No. 10” in their own homes, evoking the passage of the lives they have lived.
Tomona Matsukawa
Tomona Matsukawa presented works from the 2016 Roppongi Crossing exhibition alongside one new piece.
Tomona Matsukawa’s works carry a strong message and draw the viewer in.
Although the two artists’ works seem to flow at different tempos of time, viewers experience a sense of synchronization with each piece, at times overlaying their own time onto the works.
