I visited the solo exhibition of Pierre Soulages, known as “the painter of black.” The venue is PERROTIN in Shanghai.
Pierre Soulages is a painter of the advanced age of 99. This exhibition gathered works using only black paint. The works include recently created pieces, and his continued vigor came across through the works.
Drawn in by the distinctive surface texture, I viewed the works while imagining something lying deep within the black.
Since the works are said to be extremely expensive, I wasn’t able to ask the gallerist about them…
