Yukimasa Ida’s Solo Exhibition
Last week I attended the opening of Yukimasa Ida’s solo exhibition. The venue is Kaikai Kiki Gallery. I never thought Ida’s solo show would be held at this gallery. Wow, I was surprised.
Yukimasa Ida is advancing down the star’s road in the blink of an eye—astonishing.
The first solo show of his I saw was held in October 2017,his solo exhibition in Gifu,but at that time several works were still available even in the latter half of the run. I recall an F4-size work was priced at 150,000 yen back then. About two years later, at this solo show the prices had risen roughly sixfold—astonishing. Prices aside, ordinary people aren’t even offered an “available” state (sold out before the opening), so it seems he has gone beyond an unreachable flower to somewhere even further out of reach.
The exhibition title is also very Ida-like and nice. A Radiohead album title is used as-is, and I felt it could be taken at face value in direct translation.
Not staying within conventional frames, Ida keeps challenging himself with new work—an aggressive, challenging, cool stance, I thought. I hope he keeps showing new works one after another.
Kore Kore Exhibition, Kansai Edition
The Kore Kore Exhibition ended about two months ago, and the response since has actually been big, bringing a Kansai edition into view. There has been exchange with Kansai collectors too, and things have started moving toward realizing it. Any interested collectors (or galleries)—I think of the Kore Kore Exhibition as an open platform, so please get in touch if you’re interested.
Also, the second edition (MEDEL GALLERY SHU) runs July 9–16. The participating collectors seem to be decided, so I’m looking forward to it.
